Thank you for purchasing one of our VinylArt Vinyl Console Skins / Stickers for PlayStation 5 Disc Edition! Below is our application guide to help you get started.
Items that can make this process easier:
Step 1: Clean the device
This is an often overlooked but absolutely essential step. If you don't clean it, any debris that is left on it will show through the skin! Take some glass cleaner and spray it on the device, then use a microfiber towel or other clean towel to wipe off. Stay away from paper towels, as they can leave lint.
Step 2: See what you're working with
Unroll and lay out the vinyl material on a flat surface. We recommend you use the largest table you can find to perform the installation. Below is what you'll see when it's laid out.
Make note of the pink cut lines. You won't see these on the physical printout, but that's where the cuts are in the print. This is where the skin will peel off of the backing piece of vinyl material.
Let's start off by installing the main two pieces, beginning with the front plate.
Step 3: Front Plate
This is the easiest of the plates to do. If you have a second set of hands, you can peel the entire piece off, and align a corner to begin. Slowly work your way down until your alignment is spot-on. Your helper can hold the other side of the piece so it does not stick to the console. If you mess up, don't worry. The material is meant to be stuck and unstuck if necessary without causing damage or reducing the adhesiveness. Simply unstick, and try again. To help prevent or remove air bubbles, take a hair dryer or heat gun and apply heat to the skin after application, and use a credit card or other hard plastic tool to iron out any air bubbles that may have formed.
If it's just you: Before peeling off, use a pair of scissors to (carefully) cut this entire piece off of the main roll of vinyl. By doing this, you will be able to peel off just the top of the sticker - enough to get a corner onto the plate, while still having everything under it still on the backing material. This will make it easier because you will not have to worry about the rest of the piece sticking onto the console before it's properly aligned. It will also help prevent air bubbles. For reference, see this video tutorial below for this method:
Step 4: Rear Plate
A second set of hands will be helpful here. Start from the top, and use the same process as the front plate, until you get to the disc insert section. This is the trickiest part of the installation, but take note of these tips, and the image below.
A relief cut has been pre-cut into the template, as shown in pink and circled in red above. However, you may need to make a second relief cut of your own, with scissors, if you can't get the lower section of the disc insert area to properly align. Simply take a pair of scissors and cut a straight line across the area shown in red below. Cut once only, so as to ensure a perfectly straight cut. You will not be able to notice the cut if you align them back together properly. The reason for cutting here will be apparent during the installation. Making this relief cut will give you a lot more "play" in the vinyl to allow you to properly place it where it needs to go. Once you get this part down, part yourself on the back because the rest is very straightforward!
Step 5: Middle Skin
Place your PS5 in the standing position. Start peeling the skin from the backing paper. Start from the bottom (near the buttons), and as you peel off, check to see that the 4 cutouts, circled below in red around the two inputs and the two buttons, are fully removed as you peel it off. If not, lay the skin back down on the backing paper and manually remove these cutouts. They will already be halfway cut, so you just need to peel them up manually. A razor blade can help. Once you are sure those are fully peeled off, proceed and peel off the entire middle skin.
Use the two bottom buttons (disc insert button and power button) to begin aligning this piece. Start there, and work your way up. If you correctly positioned the skin with the two buttons, the rest should be easy. Just make sure to keep it center-aligned as you work your way up.
Step 6: The Top, Bottom and Port Panel
The remaining 3 pieces are rather simple. Just peel and align! Use the port cutouts as an alignment guide on both the bottom section and the port panel section. So instead of starting at a corner of the console, start by aligning one of the ports.
Common Troubleshooting Questions
Q: I see air bubbles in the skin after application. What can I do?
A: This is where a heat gun or hair dryer will come in handy. Apply heat to the console skin for 30 seconds by switching on and aiming the hair dryer or heat gun towards it. Use a credit card or squeegee to iron out any bubbles by sweeping them toward the sides of the skin.
